I’m so grateful that the Goodreads Year in Review exists so I could look back at the books I read in 2017 and easily spot my favorites! I didn’t necessarily forget some of them (ok, fine, maybe I totally did), but quite a few felt like I read them SO long ago that it couldn’t have been the same year. Did A Conjuring of Light seriously come out less than 11 months ago?!

I definitely loved more books than I was able to include on a short list, so I ended up picking the ones that stuck with me the most. So… after a lot of PAINFUL CHOICES… my top picks out of the 400+ books I read last year are:

  1. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
  2. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
  3. Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
  4. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
  5. Everless by Sara Holland
  6. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  7. An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
  8. Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier
  9. Warcross by Marie Lu
  10. King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
  11. A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas
  12. A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

Did any of these make your list? Let me know in the comments what some of your favorite reads were!

I’m not really huge on resolutions, but one of my “goals” for the new year is to read more books that I want to read and know I’ll love. I still plan on prioritizing whatever publishers send, but I’d also like to balance that with other books I already have! I’m pretty excited to see what my 2018 summary will look like with that plan…

  1. Hi Cait,
I am waiting for my copy of The Cruel Prince to get here. Holly Black just gets fae better than most people do. Caraval is on my TBR, and I am glad to hear that you liked it. There has been some mixed reviews for that book. I haven’t read Night Circus, which is what people tend to prefer, and I am hoping to read it after I check out Caraval. Also, it is taking me a long time to get through Sanderson’s work because he broke my heart with the first Mistborn book. It was good, but my goodness, I am still not entirely okay. Hope your new year is going well so far!

    • The ending of the first Mistborn book WAS super sad! I really liked the next two books, though. And I hope you love The Cruel Prince – the end was SO GOOD 🙂

  2. I have Caraval out from the library! I’m hoping to read it soon. I’ve heard so many good things about it! I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed The Cruel Prince. I adored The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black, so fingers crossed I enjoy her new book just as much!

    • I still need to get to The Darkest Part of the Forest. Glad to hear it’s good — hope you love Caraval!

  3. Snuck in “Warcross” at the end of 2017, and discovered I really quite enjoyed that one! The downside? I didn’t realize it was a duo… now I’m desperate to learn about its follow up.

…also… you read 400 books last year?!? WOW. Girl, you have impressive skills. Go you. 🙂

  4. An Enchantment of Ravens was one of the 2017 releases I’ve been the most excited about. I’ve been on hold for it at the library foreverrrr so I can’t wait to finally get my hands on it, and I’m glad to hear that you recommend it!
