Blogger Spotlight Q&A

• Tell us a little bit about your presence in the book blogging community — which platforms are you on?
Well, my presence in the book community is based not in the quantity of my followers but in the constant interaction and close relationships I try my best to maintain with them, whether it be through my bookstagram, twitter, snapchat, goodreads and now tumblr (all of them are under the user @booksthetics)! People are more likely to read and/or listen to what you have to say if they feel like they know that you’re a genuine person, and thus feel like they can trust you. So, if you wish to reach out to me through any of my social media platforms, hit me up! I don’t bite, haha! Also, I’m currently working on a blog of my own, so keep an eye out for it!

• What country are you from? unnamed-1
I live in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico! I love my island, and it serves quite well, since my photography is very inclined towards nature and I’m basically surrounded by nature.

• When did you begin posting about books and what made you start?
Before joining the bookstagram community, I used to own a fandom account! And while this was fun, I wanted to begin posting my own content and sharing my own opinions and thoughts, not something that’s already been made or thought out for me. It wasn’t until I followed @booksforalexa, and later @danasbookcrush (now just @danawilksss), that I was inspired to finally try it out, and well…the rest is history. I’ve grown so much as a bookstagrammer since then, I’ve met so many amazing people, some of who I consider my best friends, and I don’t doubt I’ll continue to do so.

• Is there a specific series that made you really get into YA books?
If we’re talking series, I’d say the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie. I know soooo many people dislike these books but I find them to be fantastic, and I remember reading them and wanting more and more and more! If we’re talking standalones, though, definitely Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen! It’s the one book (and her other books as well! I kind of binge read them, after finishing Keeping the Moon!) that made me become the avid reader I am today!

• What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?
The best book I’ve read so far, this year…I haven’t read much, but it’s definitely a tie between A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas and It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, which comes out on August 2nd and you should totally pre-order it. It’s a must read for everyone. So many things would be different (for the better) in this world if everyone simply read a book like this one.

• Which 2016 release are you really looking forward to?
I think we all know what my answer is…THE MIDNIGHT STAR BY MARIE LU! If you follow me on any of my social medias, you’ll know just how obsessed I am with The Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu. It’s my absolute favorite, and I’ll forever spread the word about it and try to convince people to read it. I can’t wait for the finale! (I’m definitely being incredibly lowkey about this, right now)

• If you could live in one book world, what would it be? unnamed-2
Velaris, the City of Starlight. After reading A Court of Mist and Fury…I’m convinced that I’ll never want to live in a fictional world as much as I want to live in Velaris. I’ve also always wanted to live in Narnia, but if I had to choose, definitely Velaris!

• If you could be best friends with any character, who would you pick?
Can I just be best friends with the Night Court squad (from A Court of Mist and Fury)? Rhys, Feyre, Amren, Mor, Cassian, Azriel…all of them. I want to be best friends with all of them! And of course, I’d want to be best friends with Adelina from The Young Elites because is she not a freaking queen?

• OTP?
Oh Lord…I have so many. Right now, the OTP that has taken over my life is Feyre and Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury. But some of my all time favorites are, Adelina and Magiano (of course) from The Young Elites trilogy, Lia and Rafe from The Remnant Chronicles, Laia and Elias from An Ember in the Ashes, Sydney and Mac from Saint Anything, Mara Dyer and Noah Shaw from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and (this one was recently added) Lily and Atlas from It Ends with Us.

• If you could hang out with any author for a day, who would you choose?
Marie Lu! Is this even a question? She’s the brilliant mastermind behind The Young Elites! The answer is always Marie Lu, but I’d also love to spend a day with Sarah J. Maas, V.E. Schwab and Jenny Han, because have you seen Jenny Han’s snapchat stories? Oh, wait! And also Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs! I think they’d be super fun! And Sabaa Tahir, yes! And Rick Riordan because who wouldn’t want to spend a day with King Troll, Uncle Rick? Hahaha, anyways! Marie Lu is always my first choice!

• Top 3 book recommendations?
AH, I HAVE SO MANY! My first recommendation would, of course, be the Young Elites trilogy by Marie Lu, for obvious reasons! Although if you need convincing, slide into my DMs and I’l do the job. I’d definitely recommend It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, which you can preorder now as it comes out on August 2nd, because it deals with and explains matters that I strongly believe everyone should be aware of. Like I said, so many things would be different in this world if everyone simply read a book like this one. Now, for my third recommendation I’d say the Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy by Sarah J. Maas. The world building in these books is outstanding, and the characters are so rich and unique and full of life and depth, and I can’t see how anyone could simply not love this story. I mean, okay. I’m well aware of the fact that there are people who don’t actually like these books, but that happens with every book, you know? Not everyone was made to like the same things, and that’s fine! In my opinion, these books are phenomenal, and I 100% recommend you check them out. And if you’re being stubborn, refusing to read A Court of Mist and Fury…you should definitely give it a try. Trust me on this one.

• Any advice to someone looking to start their own blog, bookstagram, booklr, etc?
Be genuine! It’s something I always say and will always say. Bookstagram (or whichever platform and community you choose to join) is more for yourself than it is for everyone else, so do what you love and be genuine about it! It makes the experience super, super enjoyable, and you’re more likely to find yourself surrounded by people who love you and what you do! Also, if you’re doing photography, good, natural lighting is the way to go!

Thanks for sharing!

  1. Michael: Do I have to explain everything to you? Conservative talk radio represents one strain of public opinion but doesn’t necessarily mirror public opinion overall. If it did, Obama would have lost the election in a landslide. Are you so dense that you can’t comprehend even that? Don’t answer. I think we know.

Saludos cordiales.
