I know y’all are probably sipping a peppermint mocha or listening to Christmas music as you read this post, so can we back it up a few weeks/months and pretend it’s still early September when this post was originally scheduled? Or hopefully some of you are still looking for something cozy to transition seasons over the Thanksgiving holiday week!
So here are some of my favorites that I’ve been listening to, reading, and watching this fall:
I’m really not sure why most of these books remind me of autumn… maybe it’s just the presence of trees and/or pumpkins? Some of my old favorites (+ 1 new one) that all just feel like fall to me are:
- Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
- The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
- the Harry Potter series
- An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
And I definitely don’t do scary stories, but these have just enough of a slightly creepy, yet lighthearted atmosphere for my kind of October:
- The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
- A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland
- The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken
Obviously Gilmore Girls is my first choice because Stars Hollow IS autumn. Otherwise, I’m not that into Halloween (I know, I know… unpopular opinion), so most of my favorite autumn episodes revolve more around Thanksgiving. I usually binge-watch every Thanksgiving episode of Friends in the morning before the Macy’s parade so I can cram as much holiday cheer into 24 hours as possible.
But I am straight up OBSESSED with Hallmark for just about every season. Seriously, leave me alone with a Hallmark movie and my knitting and I am the happiest 20-something grandma ever. I just love how cheesy, happy, and formulaic they are! Falling for Vermont is definitely the best of this year’s autumn batch. It’s about a YA author (yay) who gets amnesia and has to stay with her single doctor… yeahhh now that I’m typing this I realize whatever I say is going to sound ridiculous – just watch the trailer and TRUST ME:
Ok so this is more like my non-Christmas playlist of songs I listen to during the other 10 months of the year (because apparently I take my Hallmark movies and Christmas music very seriously). But I think most of this playlist does have a fall feeling! I mostly listen to a lot of Adrian von Ziegler, Fleet Foxes, BrunuhVille, Enya, Antti Martikainen, The Chieftains, Bon Iver, and classical stuff.
Some favorites I’m usually listening to this time of the year:

Random recipe: it’s been about 7 years since I’ve been able to eat it, but I still remember how much I loved this gluten-free pumpkin chai bread with cranberries! I tweaked the recipe to be free of eggs, sugar, corn, nuts, dairy, wheat, gluten, vanilla, & soy, but it was still amazing. So there’s my sales pitch.
And I’ll be doing my winter favorites post soon (promise), so brace yourselves for that because I LIVE for winter.
What are some of your autumn favorites? Have you read/seen/listened to anything I mentioned? Let me know in the comments! <3
