Those of you who follow the @broodingYAhero Twitter account already know how hilariously accurate Broody’s commentary is, so I’m really excited to share this Q&A with the face behind the account! Carrie Ann DiRisio’s Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me comes out on October 17th. I revealed an illustration from the book on my instagram last week:
Illustrator Linnea Gear did a great job bringing Broody to life! Check out the end of this Q&A for another illustration and links to where you can preorder the book.
Have you ever wished you could receive a little guidance from your favorite book boyfriend? Ever dreamed of being the Chosen One in a YA novel? Want to know all the secrets of surviving the dreaded plot twist?
Or maybe you’re just really confused about what “opal-tinted, luminous cerulean orbs” actually are?
Well, popular Twitter personality @broodingYAhero is here to help as he tackles the final frontier in his media dominance: writing a book. Join Broody McHottiepants as he attempts to pen Brooding YA Hero: Becoming a Main Character (Almost) as Awesome as Me, a “self-help” guide (with activities–you always need activities) that lovingly pokes fun at the YA tropes that we roll our eyes at, but secretly love.
As his nefarious ex, Blondie DeMeani, attempts to thwart him at every turn, Broody overcomes to detail, among other topics, how to choose your genre, how to keep your love interest engaged (while maintaining lead character status), his secret formula for guaranteed love triangle success, and how to make sure you secure that sequel, all while keeping his hair perfectly coiffed and never breaking a sweat.
Carrie Ann DiRisio is a YA writer and creator of @BroodingYAHero. She lives in Pittsburgh, PA with one large fluffy cat, and is currently pursuing her masters in Digital Marketing, although her true dream is to become a Disney Villainess, complete with a really snazzy gown.
In addition to writing and plans for world domination, she also enjoys running, coffee, Krav Maga, and knitting.
• What do you like to do when you’re not writing (or tweeting)?

• What was the most challenging part of writing this book?
The most challenging part was translating the humor of a Twitter account which is designed to be short and concise as well as funny into a book.
• What’s it been like to see the internet’s response to Broody?
It’s been absolutely amazing!!! Fans are some of the best parts of this whole experience I’m so incredibly touched by all of the fanart, cosplay, and photos I’ve seen. I always tell everyone that Broody Really does read every reply!
• What are some of your favorite YA books of 2017?
Want by Cindy pon
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

And SO MANY MORE!!!!! It’s like trying to pick a favorite child lol
• Any advice to beginning authors?
Never give up! Read as much as possible and read recent books don’t just stick with books you like as a teenager! Don’t be afraid to try new things and be sure that you still find enjoyment in the process because it’s a long haul no matter what!
You can add the book on Goodreads or preorder it on Amazon!
